“Bringing a positive new meaning to the term ‘Surrey Girl’ and showing what it really means to be a female from Surrey.” (ourhappyplace.ca)
There’s some affirmative action afoot in Surrey these days…and it’s all about boosting the cache around the decades-long mistreatment of the term, ‘Surrey Girl.’ A new project has been launched by Kat Petrunia – simply dubbed ‘The Surrey Girl Project’ – to remove the absurdly derogatory and tired connotation associated with Surrey Girl.
Kat hosts a wonderfully uplifting lifestyle blog, Our Happy Place, where she outlines in detail her wish to effect positive change in a small but meaningful way in her community. She wants to highlight how being a female in Surrey is a great thing – that Surrey girls and women are positive, strong, and gifted forces with fierce energy and loads of talent.
What a wonderful role model for Surrey girls!
Kat has launched The Surrey Girl Project as a collaborative effort between Our Happy Place and several local businesses and organizations (including Homeworks Etc.) to create a series that features amazing girls and women from the Surrey community. Together, this collective will showcase diversity and talent, including a compilation of photos on Our Happy Place blog, and individual profiles presented on the e-magazine, Surrey 604.
